Zoning Analysis is available for customer on our Enterprise and Pro plans
A zoning is a static snapshots of your website. A snapshot is an image captured of your site, used to analyze your pages. You analyze your snapshot by using zones - colorful data overlays that use the div structure of your site to identify where the elements on the page are.
Step-by-step Guides
Access Zoning Analysis from the main menu.
1. Click '+ Select page'
2. Define which page you want to analyze and click 'Apply'.
Choose between:
- Page group on the fly: Analyze data from a specific URL or multiple URLs with specific conditions.
- All page groups: Analyze a page group from an existing mapping

Then, click ‘Apply’
3. Click 'Analyze now', and the Zoning Analysis will capture a snapshot automatically from a session replay, and save your new zoning inside the zoning list.
What is live zoning?
When capturing a snapshot of your live website, the Zoning Analysis users Live zoning. This is a window that opens and shows you the live page which you want to capture a snapshot of.
1. Capture the snapshot by either using the 'Capture a new snapshot' CTA or the shortcut.
2. Click 'Save to Contentsquare'.
You'll find the snapshot inside your new zoning, or in the snapshot library of your existing zoning.
What do I do if there's already a zoning available for my chosen page?
There may already be a zoning created by your team for your chosen page. In that case, you'll see this message:
You are able to use that zoning depending on your user rights:
- Owner: You created the zoning, and can choose which other users can edit and view it.
- Edit: You aren't the owner of the zoning but have the right to edit it, for example, create new zones.
- View: You can see the zoning and already created zones, but can't create new or delete existing zones.
Using Advanced Setup
The 'Advanced setup' option lets you manually capture a snapshot from the live version of your site, or create a zoning of a previous version of your site by capturing a retroactive snapshot from a Session Replay. You can also use advanced setup to analyze an AB test via integration.
How to capture a snapshot from your live website
1. Select the page you want to analyze and click 'Advanced set up'.
2. In the slide-in that opens, select 'Live website'.
3. Select the device and segment you want to analyze.
4. Name your 'Zoning analysis'.
4. Click 'Start analysis'.
5. In the new window that opens, click 'Save to Contentsquare'.
You'll find your newly created zoning inside the zoning list.
How to capture a retroactive snapshot
1. Select the page you want to analyze and click 'Advanced set up'.
2. In the slide-in that opens, select 'Take a snaphot from Replay'.
3. Define the Device, Date Range and Segment you want to analyze.
4. Click 'Start analysis', and a snapshot will be captured for you.
How to analyze an AB Test
1. Click 'A/B test analysis'
1. Select either 'Variation' or 'Dynamic variable'.
2. Choose the variation or dynamic variable you want to analyze from the drop-down list.
3. Set appropriate device, date range and segment for the test analysis.
4. Name your Zoning and Click 'Start analysis'
Accessing your Zonings
1. Click on 'My Zonings' tab
2. You can filter by a page of page group.
Accessing your deleted zonings
It's now possible to access zonings you've previously deleted:
1. Click on 'Show more'
2. Click 'Manage Zonings'
3. Click 'Recover Zonings'
4. Check the box next to the zoning you want to recover.
5. Click 'Recover'
Managing Edit Rights
There are different levels of edit rights depending on if you have created a zoning or not.
- Owner: You have created the zoning, and can edit it as you wish. You can also give edit rights to other users.
- Editor: You are not the owner of a zoning, but have been given the right to edit it.
- Viewer: You can view the zoning, but can't edit it - this is the default mode for all zonings you aren't the owner of.
