How to read a user journey

Journey Analysis is available on our Pro and Enterprise plans.

Journey Analysis allows you to view your users' navigational paths.

Display a journey

1. Set your Analysis Context: choose a mapping, device, period, and segment.

2. By default, the journey visualization will then display all paths in static mode.

Bounces vs Exits

Bounces:

Visitors who leave your site after seeing only one page. These black portions of circles are displayed after a landing page (on the second step).

Exits:

Visitors who have seen at least two pages during their journey. These black portions are situated on the third step and after on the visitors' path.

Highlighting a page group

Each page group in the Journey analysis visualization is associated with a color.

1. Open the list of page groups

2. Click on the star icon next to a page group to highlight the page groups associated with it.

Reminder: Page groups correspond to the pages on your website (e.g., Product page), while a Page encapsulates only the single URLs contained in your site pages.

For example: The specific URL 'https://csu-retail.pre-sales.fr/product-category/gaming' is a page that is part of your Product page group.

Note: You can click on several colors to highlight multiple page groups at the same time. Remember, pages are assigned different colors according to the mapping you've selected.

Journey selection mode

Toggle the Journey selection on or press Ctrl to follow pages succession step by step. The percentage displayed on every step (page group) corresponds to the share of visitors who saw every step of the path that you are hovering over.

If you click on a page group (half circle), you select the corresponding page group and visualize the steps visitors took after having seen the page group you just clicked on.

View Journeys after a Page group

The Journeys after a Page group visualization allows you to visualize journeys after the page group you have selected. The selected page group will be displayed on the inner circle and can be seen either as a landing page or during navigation.

The percentage of visitors having reached the selected page group at least once equals 100%. You can then visualize all steps visitors took after having reached this page group.

In the example below, from all visitors who saw the product page, 25.49% reached a category page right after.

Understand the impact of journey exits on future sessions

Note: These metrics are only available if you use Product Analytics or the PA Extension for Experience Analytics. Please contact your Customer Success Manager for more information, or sign up for the PA Extension from the main menu in Contentsquare.

Better understand what percentage of users return after exiting your site from a Journey, and what percentage go on to make a transaction in their future session.

Simply hover over the dark green step on a Journey to view the metrics.
