1. Pageview tracking
To check if pageview tracking is working, go through your website’s pages and check the tracking installation using the Contentsquare Tracking Setup Assistant.
Furthermore, when setting up an analysis, you can use Mappings to monitor the movement of data between URLs. Keep in mind that Mappings only displays data from the past three days.
2. Tracking custom variables
You can verify custom variables on a live site using the Contentsquare Tracking Setup Assistant. Additionally, custom variable keys and values are collected in the mappings module in analysis setup. Each key-value pair represents the number of users who visited URLs where those custom variables were present.
To validate and compare these numbers, use Session Replays or Segments, filtering users who triggered specific custom variables.
3. Tracking dynamic variables and events
You can verify dynamic variables and events on a live site using the Contentsquare Tracking Setup Assistant.
To further validate data, use Session Replays or Segments, filtering users who triggered specific dynamic variables and events.
4. Tracking Artificial Pageviews
The best way to verify artificial pageviews is by confirming them in real time using the Contentsquare Tracking Setup Assistant. To further analyze user interactions, use Mappings or Segments to segment and track users. This can help supplement live-site testing and provide deeper insights into user behavior.
5. Tracking E-commerce tag
The simplest way to test an e-commerce tag is by completing a purchase on your live site and checking if the Contentsquare Tracking Setup Assistant captures the transaction.
For further validation, use Segments or Session Replays to analyze the number of users who triggered the e-commerce tag within a specific timeframe.
6. Session Replay personal information masking
If Session Replay is enabled, ensure that no personal information is being collected by following these steps:
1. Visit pages with sensitive user data, such as:
- Personal account details
- Checkout flows
- Address dropdown suggestions
- Support chat
2. Find your session replay using the Contentsquare Tracking Setup Assistant
- Click Quick replay link.
3. Review the session replay to confirm that all sensitive data is properly masked.
7. Using Segments to combine users into groups
Segments allow you to group users who triggered multiple events, custom variables, and dynamic variables. These segments can then be analyzed in Journey Analysis or Session Replay for further insights.
8. Zoning Analysis
To verify data collection in Zonings, analyze at least 2–3 key pages and confirm the following:
- Elements on the webpage can be marked into zones.
- Ensure there’s no CSS distortion — note that full anonymization may impact CSS rendering.
- Collected numbers align with expected totals for the designated URLs.
