1. Navigate to 'Analysis setup' from the main menu and select 'Segments'.
2. Click the 'New segment' button in the top-right corner. (You can also create a new segment using the Analysis context or via shortcut menus when you right-click in certain areas of the platform, read more below).
3. Name your segment e.g. “Viewed PDP"
4. Select a type of condition from the drop-down list.
Conditions can be:
- Goals (“Viewed PDP”, “Clicked cart”, etc.)
- Segments (“New users” or “Returning users”, etc.)
- Session attributes ("E-commerce transaction", “Browser”, “Session duration”, “Number of sessions”, etc.)
- User actions (“Exit page”, “Viewed Page”, “Zone clicked”, etc.)
- Integrations ("Adobe Analytics", "Monetate", "AB Tasty", etc.)
5. For Segments select 'match' or 'do not match' from the drop-down to include or exclude the condition from the segment.
6. Select a condition.
- If you select Goals as your condition type segments can only contain up to nine (9) goals.
7. Click 'Create'
- All sessions: compares the % of the segment’s visits with the % of total number of visits on your website.
- Devices: the segment’s total number of visits are distributed across three devices (desktop, mobile, and tablet) for the past seven (7) days.
Combining conditions
You can combine different conditions using AND, OR, THEN, or DIRECTLY THEN.
- You can use AND or OR to combine any two conditions.
- You can also use THEN or DIRECTLY THEN to create a sequential segment with a sequence of visitor actions.
- THEN or DIRECTLY THEN only work with three types of conditions: “Landing page (by goal)”, “Viewed page”, and “Zone clicked”. Find out more about sequential segments here.
Combining groups of conditions
For advanced segmentation, you can create groups of conditions and combine them.
In this example:
1. “New users” "OR" users who have “Reached Cart page”
2. Combined Using "AND", with the second group of conditions:
“Non-bounce sessions” "AND" users who are from “United Kingdom”
Quantify, edit, duplicate or delete segments
- Click the '...' see more options menu and select 'Quantify', 'Edit', 'Duplicate', or 'Delete'.
- To take action on multiple segments at once check the top left check box and then deselect boxes to the left of segments you don't want to take action on.
- If you select 'Delete' a message will appear displaying a list of alerts and dashboard widgets affected by the deletion.
- You can only edit the segments you have created; segments created by Contentsquare can’t be deleted.
Create segments on-the-fly
Create segments without having to leave your analysis using the Analysis context or via the shortcut menu.
Create segments using the Analysis contextUsing the Analysis context in the Journey analysis, Page comparator, Zoning analysis, Impact quantification and Dashboards, select segment conditions and click 'Save as new Segment'. |
Create segments using shortcut menusIn Journey analysis, Zoning analysis, and Page comparator features, you can generate a new segment for a specific journey step, zone, or page just by right-clicking. Here is an example of how to create a new segment using this method in Journey analysis: 1. Right-click on the page you would like to create a segment based on to open the shortcut menu 2. Click 'Create a segment' 3. The set of conditions from the page you right-clicked on will be applied to the segment automatically 3. Click 'Create & Apply' |
