What is a mapping?
The CS SDK collects data from your app's screens. Mappings help you organize this data.
A mapping is the name for a grouping of one or several "screens" into screen groups, so you can execute intuitive analyses. In other words, mappings are visual app maps that help you decide how to use the collected data according to your analysis needs.
- Mappings are built of your app's screens that you organize through conditions into screen groups
- A screen is a unique element of a mapping and can't be put into two (2) screen groups of the same mapping.

Mapping List
Go to 'Analysis setup' from the main menu and click on 'Mappings'. You will land on the mapping list interface and will see all the existing mappings on your project.
1. Mapping list - you can see all the mappings that have been created for your project. You can star them. This action will add them to your favorites, so you can find them easily in other modules.
Note that mapping with a lock icon are mappings created by Contentsquare and cannot be deleted. You need to duplicate to edit them.
2. Screen groups - a group of screen names with the same screen template, like a product screen or a listing screen. Screen names with the same screen type can be grouped together for an aggregated data overview.
3. Exhaustivity - when a mapping is 100% exhaustive, this means that all screen names of your app tracked by the Contentsquare SDK are included in Screen groups and, therefore, appear in the modules. If your mapping is not 100% exhaustive, you will see 'undefined screens' on other modules.
4. Last update - date and name of the last user who edited the mapping.
5. Glossary - here you can find all the definitions for mappings
Mapping structure
Contentsquare's Mappings are organized into screen names which are sorted into different screen groups, which are ranked under different categories.
Using mappings in Digital Experience Analytics Mobile
The mappings you select while using Contentsquare determine which of your app's screen names are being analyzed. For example, if you choose a mapping with just your Product screens, your Product screens will be the scope of your analysis.
Journey Analysis
Customer journey will update according to the mapping you select. Each color represents a screen group. For example, the screen group "product details" aggregates data collected on all product details screens of your app.
Screen Metrics
The list of screen groups will update according to the mapping you select.
Glossary
Screen group in a mapping |
A Screen group is a group of one or several screens grouped together (usually with the same structural layout). |
Screen |
Reference to your app screens |
Screen view |
Screen visit by an app user. It includes, among other things, the current screen name, the screen size, the window size, and the size of the document. It is sent automatically. The screen views displayed correspond to the last 7 days. |
Category |
A category is a group of one or several screen groups. When you create or edit a mapping, you will be asked to choose a category where you want to move your screen names. The colors of the screens are the same colors displayed in Journey Analysis. |
Screen conflict |
If you try to create a screen group with a screen that is already included in another screen group, this will create conflict. A screen can only belong to one screen group. You will have to fix the conflict to save your mapping. |
Linked objects |
Assets that you create using a page group from a mapping, like segments, goals, zonings, alerts. |
