Form Analysis lets you analyze the performance of your site’s forms.
For example, you can find out how many users interacted with your form without completing it, or see exactly which field of your form causes users to drop.
Learn how to leverage this feature to improve your form’s conversion by optimizing it and reducing abandonment.
Reminder: an interaction is defined as any type for event and type of behavior on a page.
How to access Form Analysis
To access the Form Analysis capability, switch from 'Zoning' mode to 'Form analysis' using the drop-down menu.
Note
Zones created in the 'Zoning' mode are hidden in 'Form Analysis' but hey have not been deleted. You can see them again by switching to 'Zoning' mode.
How to add new zones to your form
To begin with, navigate to the 'Edit' tab on the right side of the screenshot.
- Add new zones: start by selecting new zones on the form. New zones will appear in a list on the right side panel of your screen with the name of their HTML elements.
- Order your zones: each zone appears in the order in which you have created it. You can change the order of the zones on the list by clicking on the drop-down menu and selecting a different number. You can also click on the placeholder with the zone's name to edit it.
- Identify the submit zone: when you add at least two zones, a 'Submit' zone will appear in the edit mode. Select a 'Submit zone' among the created zone via the drop-down menu. You won't be able to start your analysis unless a submit zone has been defined. Finally, select a page indicating a successful conversion after visitors click on the submit button. You can choose either a page from a mapping, an URL or a goal.
Note
The calculations are based on whether your visitors clicked on the Submit zones or not.

Once created, you can use the segment in all other Contentsquare features.
Warning
You can't add conditions to a segment created in Form Analysis. However, you can use a Form Analysis segment as a condition in segments created in other modules.
How to understand the report in Form Analysis
Once you've successfully edited your Form Analysis by creating zones and identifying the 'Submit' button, you will be able to see the global report.
The global report contains 4 reports: conversion, drop, blank and refill. They match the data collected on the form level.
In the example below, we see that 25,9 % of users successfully submitted the form. However, we also see that 6,8 % of them who submitted the form left at least one field blank.
Note
By default, the sample size is 100k sessions but if it lower than 20% of sessions, we increase the sample size to reach 20% of session in total.
Conversion report
To access the detailed conversion report, click on the colored '>' in the first field of the Report section.
Each step of the report represents the following sequence: among the total number of users who loaded this form, the percentage of users who left without interacting, etc.
Form Analysis metrics
You can also access zone-level metrics from the drop-down menu to see exactly which zone in the form caused frustration:
Blank rate | Find out the % of users who left the field blank when submitting the form. |
Drop rate | See the % of users who interacted with this field just before abandoning the page. |
Refill rate | See the % of users who refilled the field after an unsuccessful attempt to submit the form. |
Autocompletion and pre-filled fields in Form Analysis
Autocompletion (= change event on the fields) is supported by Form Analysis, which may cause some misalignment with the Click Rate results.
Pre-filled fields are not taken into account. If there is no change event in the field, then there isn't any interaction.
How to jump to Session Replay
You can open a Session Replay matching the selected metric on the form's field.
The sessions that open will match: the Analysis Context, the segment of users who interacted with the form and the selected metric.
To access Session Replay, use the shortcuts directly on a specific zone by right-clicking on it, or via the '•••' menu button inside the report.
