Form Analysis lets you analyze the performance of your site’s forms. For example, you can find out how many users interacted with your form without completing it, or see exactly which field of your form causes users to drop. Leverage this feature to improve your form’s conversion by optimizing it and reducing abandonment.
Access Form Analysis
To access the Form Analysis capability, switch from 'Zoning' mode to 'Form analysis' using the drop-down menu.
Note: zones that you created in the 'Zoning' mode are hidden in the 'Form Analysis' but they have not been deleted. You will see them when you go back to the 'Zoning' mode.
Add new zones to your form
Navigate to the 'Edit tab' on the right side of the snapshot.
1. Add new zones
Start by creating new zones on the form. New zones will appear in a list on the panel on the right with the names of their HTML elements.
2. Order your zones
Each zone appears in the order in which you have created it. You can change the order of the zones on the list by clicking on the drop-down menu and selecting a different number.
You can also click on the placeholder with the zone’s name to edit it.
3. Identify the submit zone
When you add at least two zones, a 'submit zone' will appear in the edit mode. Select a 'submit zone' among the created zones via the drop-down menu. You won’t be able to start your analysis unless a submit zone has been defined.
Finally, select a page indicating a successful conversion after visitors click on the submit button. You can choose either a page from a mapping, a URL or a goal.
Note: the calculations are based on whether your visitors clicked on the submit zones or not.
Create a new segment
It’s also possible to create a segment based on a Form analysis metric using shortcuts. You can create segments either on a zone level by using shortcuts directly from a zone, or on a form level by using shortcuts from the form report.
Using Shortcuts directly on a zone
- Select a metric from the drop-down menu
- Right-click on a zone you are interested in
- Select Create new segment in the menu that opens
- Name the segment and click Save
Using Shortcuts from the Form report
- Click on the 'Report' tab
- Locate the metric you are interested in, and click the “...” icon on its right
- Select Create a segment in the menu that opens
- Name the segment and click 'Save'
Once created, you can use the segment in all other Contentsquare features.
Note: you can’t add conditions to a segment created in Form Analysis. However, you can use a Form Analysis segment as a condition in segments created in other modules.
Understand the report
Once you've successfully edited your form analysis by creating zones and identifying the submit button, you will be able to see the global report.
The global report contains four reports: conversion, drop, blank, and refill. They correspond to the data collected on the form level. In the example below, we see that 68.5% of users successfully submitted the form. However, we also see that all of the users who submitted the form left at least one field blank.
Conversion report
Click on the '>' in the first field of the Report to access the detailed conversion report.
Each step of the report represents the following sequence: among the total number of users who loaded this form, x% users left without interacting, etc.
Note: What we mean by interaction is any type of event and any type of behavior on a page.
Form analysis metrics
You can also access zone-level metrics to see exactly which zone in the form caused frustration:
Drop rate | See the % of users who interacted with this field just before abandoning the page |
Blank rate | Find out the % of users who left the field blank when submitting the form |
Refill rate | See the % of users who refilled the field after an unsuccessful attempt to submit the form |
- Autocompletion is supported by Form Analysis, which may cause some misalignment with the Click rate results (autocompletion = change event on the fields);
- Pre-filled fields are not taken into account (there is no change event in the field = no interaction).
Jump to Session Replay
You can also open a session replay matching the selected metric on the form's field. The sessions that open will match the Analysis Context, the segment of users who interacted with the form, and the selected metric.
Access session replay either by using shortcuts directly on a specific zone, or via the '...' button inside the report.
