The number of unique users who saw the selected page at least once during their session.
How it's calculated
Sessions = number of sessions where the page has been seen at least once.
A session starts when a user arrives on a website and ends when there is no more activity for 30 minutes after the last event / user action.
*Sessions are defined by the context analysis
Updated session calculation from August 2024
As of 22nd August 2024, the session timeout criteria was updated to align with industry standards. Previously, a session ended after 30 minutes of inactivity after the last pageview. Now, a session ends after 30 minutes of inactivity after the last event / user action.
What is an event / user action?
An event can be any event collected by our tag; be it a page view, a click, or any custom event you might have configured your tag to collect.
How might this have impacted sessions?
While this doesn’t impact sessions prior to this date, there may be minimal impact to some sessions’ KPIs, such as an increase in session duration (resulting in fewer total sessions).
Those variations are more likely to occur on pages that are viewed and interacted with for a long time, and on segments visiting such pages.
How to interpret it
Use Sessions to analyze the overall health of your pages and if there are any external factors that could be impacting your page traffic.
Use page session numbers throughout the customer journey to create a traffic funnel and spot problematic pages that cause users to leave your site.
