How does Contentsquare define Bots/ Spiders?
A bot (aka a spider or crawler) is a piece of software that Google (or another company) uses to scour the web and gather information or perform automated tasks. Contentsquare identifies all the bots on the IAB/ABC International Spiders & Bots List and on the New Relic's IP-only and IP range lists (US & EU).
Note! You can exclude bot traffic based on the New Relic's list of IPs if you are already using New Relic.
How to exclude bot and spider traffic temporarily
Create a segment to exclude bot and spider traffic from a specific analysis to view data from real users only.
1. Go to your Analysis context and select 'do not match' and 'Bots and spiders' to exclude related traffic from your analysis.
2. Add other conditions (if any) and select 'Apply'
Excluding bot and spider traffic from your entire Contentsquare project permanently
Ask your Customer Success Manager to learn more. Excluding all the bot traffic
allows you to analyze real user traffic only, aligning your data with other tools
such as Adobe Analytics, however, you cannot recover sessions with bot traffic
retroactively.
