Create Dashboards & Alerts to regularly monitor error occurrences over time and be alerted to any anomalies.
Getting started with error monitoring in Dashboards & Alerts
Step 1: Define what you want to monitor
A good starting point is to define what it is you want to monitor, such as scope or timeframe.
For example:
- Error types: Monitor API, JS, Custom, and Crash errors (for mobile apps projects)
- Granularity: Monitor errors rates at site-level, by page or page group
- Timeframe: Monitor error performance over a longer period of time (up to 90 days) or monitor in real time (5min delay, 1 day of data, 7-day retention) for an important release or seasonal event (such as Black Friday) to identify and fix issues fast
- Segment: Monitor error rates for a specific user groups, such as those who bounced or bounced on a specific page (such as the Checkout)
-
Error metrics: The following error metrics are available for you to monitor in Dashboards & Alerts:
- Number of errors
- Number of pageviews with errors
- Percentage of pageviews
- Number of sessions with errors (Analytics only)
- Percentage of sessions with errors (Analytics only)
- Number of users with errors
- Percentage of users with errors
Step 2: Select your Dashboard and Alert type
There are two types of Dashboards and Alerts you can create for errors: Analytics and Real Time.
Analytics Dashboard & Alerts
These Dashboards are refreshed hourly and Alerts monitor error rates every 24 hours. Use these to get a holistic view of error occurrences across your website and their impact on other metrics.
- See how errors perform over time (up to 90 days)
- Monitor error metrics and other key analytics metrics all in one place
- Get alerted about changes in your error rates, alongside other metrics

These Dashboards and Alerts monitor error rates every 5 minutes, so you can act fast. Use these to see the immediate impact of critical errors and get notified about issues within minutes.
- Understand within minutes how errors are trending, so you can act before the impact worsens
- Be proactively alerted as soon as your website has abnormally high error rates
Note: you can only monitor one full day in Real time and only error metrics are available.

FAQs
Can I use a regular, non-real time dashboard and turn it into a real time error dashboard?
No, it’s not currently possible to turn one dashboard type into another. With a real time dashboard, the error data is based on user events and pageviews, and is refreshed every 5 minutes. With a regular, non-real time dashboard the error data (alongside other metrics) is based on a user session, displaying the data 30 minutes after the session has ended.
Can I use real time and regular dashboard metrics in the same dashboard?
No, it's not possible to display real time and regular metrics in the same dashboard.
