Swipe rate shows the percentage of users who have swiped in a selected direction on a zone during a pageview.
What is a swipe?
A swipe is defined as the finger movement users do when dragging their finger across their screen to interact with the page content.
How it’s calculated
The ratio between the number of pageviews containing at least one swipe on a zone, and the total number of pageviews.
Swipe rate = Number of pageviews containing at least one swipe on a specific zone ÷ Total number of pageviews
How to use Swipe rate
Swipe rate can be used to analyze how mobile users interact with content on your website, for example:
- Are users swiping through your homepage carousel?
- Are users swiping through product page images?
How to interpret it
In Contentsquare, you can analyze swipes that occurred in seven (7) different manners:
1. Up: Users swiped up the screen
2. Down: Users swiped down the screen
3. Left: Users swiped left on the screen
4. Right: Users swiped right on the screen
5. Vertical: Users swiped both up and down on the screen
6. Horizontal: Users swiped both to the left and right on the screen
7. All: Includes all swipe movements that were made on the screen
You can also set the Swipe speed- the speed of the user's finger as they perform the swipe action. You can choose between two (2) different swipe speeds:
Slow: A slow swipe is when a users ‘drags’ their finger across the screen, and the action has lower than 1000 dp/s
Fast: A fast swipe is when a user ‘flicks’ their finger across the screen, and the action has higher than 1000 dp/s.
Dp/s stands for density pixel divided by second. It lets us calculate the distance and duration of a swipe movement, from when the user’s finger touches the screen until it’s lifted.
Example: Let’s say a user swipes through images in a carousel. If the user first swipes quickly (flicks) to an image, then hold their finger on the image while looking at it, the dp/s will be calculated from when the user first began the swipe movement until they lift their finger from the screen.
If the dp/s is higher than 1000, it will be counted as a fast swipe. If it’s lower than 1000dp/s, it will be counted as a slow swipe.
