A snapshot is a static version of your site's pages used for analysis in the Zoning Analysis. In the Snapshots library, you’ll find all the snapshots that have been created of your site.
How to capture a snapshot
You can capture a new snapshot directly from inside a zoning. Either click on 'Capture new snapshot' or 'My snapshots' button.
Depending on your use case, select one of the options:
- From my live site: capture a snapshot from your live website to analyze the page's current layout.
- From snapshot library: choose from a pool of snapshots captured during previous versions of your page's, generated through session replays, to analyze a previous page layout.
- From a replay: analyze a retroactive retroactive snapshot by creating one from a session replay.
Using the right snapshot
Changes made to your website’s HTML can have an impact on your Zoning Analysis results. Keep in mind that these changes can be both visible and invisible on the front end of your website:
- Visible: A new carousel is added to a page
- Invisible: A div has changed name
Best practice is to always make sure that your snapshot date matches the date set in your Analysis Context and vice versa. Contentsquare automatically detects if the date of the snapshot doesn’t match the date of the analysis context.
If the dates are mismatching, you'll see an 'info' icon on the date of the snapshot. The date in the Analysis Context will be highlighted with a thick border.
To get more information about how you can select a better matching snapshot, click on the highlighted snapshot date.
This will trigger a pop-up, that recommends you to either:
1. Change to another snapshot from your snapshot library
2. Create a new snapshot
If there’s another snapshot in your library that better matches the date in your Analysis Context, a pop-up will recommend you to access the snapshot library and switch your snapshot.
The snapshot in your library matching your Analysis Context date will be marked with Matching date.
