A segment is a group of your site's users' that share the same characteristics. Segments let you filter your Contentsquare data to focus on specific types of users instead of looking at everyone together. For example, a 'New users' segment groups together all users coming to your site for the first time. You can make segments as simple or as detailed as you need.
What you can do with Segments
Segments help you understand different groups of users and how they behave on your site. Here are some examples of how you can use segments:
Focus your analysis on the users that matter most to you. Apply segments to see data for specific groups in Journey Analysis, Funnels, Zoning Analysis, Session Replay, and other Contentsquare capabilities. This helps you spot patterns and issues for particular audiences.
Compare how different groups behave. Look at "new users" next to "returning users" to see which group converts better. Compare users from different marketing channels to find your best traffic sources. This helps you make smarter decisions about where to focus your efforts.
Build dashboards for specific audiences. Create widgets that always show data for a particular segment, like users from a specific region, or users who took certain actions. This saves you time by keeping your most important metrics front and center.
Clean up your data by filtering out unwanted traffic. Create segments to exclude bot traffic, internal team members, or other visitors that might skew your results. This gives you a more accurate picture of real user behavior.
Save time. Segments are saved and can be used again and again. Your whole team can access them too, so everyone analyzes data consistently.
Key features
Default segments: Pre-built segments (marked with a lock icon) that you can use immediately without any setup. Available default segments may vary by plan.
Custom segment creation: Build your own segments with conditions that match what you need to analyze.
Sequential segments (requires Pro or Enterprise plans): Track users through specific actions in order, like "viewed product" then "abandoned cart."
Segment organization: Mark favorites, search by name, and duplicate or edit existing segments to keep everything organized.
Multiple access points: Create and apply segments directly in the Segment interface, within the Analysis Context, or using shortcuts in different Contentsquare features.
Traffic distribution view: See what percentage of your total traffic each segment represents, so you understand the size of the group you're analyzing.
