Text Search enables you to locate and analyze specific text strings during user sessions to understand their impact on conversion rates, revenue, and user engagement. After setting up Text Search, you can analyze the data to help you prioritize user experience improvements, quickly address critical issues, and enhance business outcomes.
Interpretation tips
- Context matters: A high number of sessions seeing a text string isn't always negative. For example, promotional messages should be widely seen, while error messages should be minimized.
- Combine quantitative and qualitative: Use quantitative data available in Impact alongside Session Replay observations and Voice of Customer responses to understand not just how many users are affected, but how they're affected.
- Compare segments: Create multiple analyses comparing "Text Seen" versus "Text Not Seen" to isolate the specific impact of the message on user behavior and conversions.
Analyze trends in user behavior with Most Viewed Pages
The Most Viewed Pages tab inside Impact helps you identify where text strings and errors appear most frequently across your site.
- Total Pageviews: the total number of pageviews where your text string appeared across all pages, giving you a sense of the scale of exposure.
- Identify top affected pages: At a glance, view the top 10 pages where the text appeared to quickly pinpoint which pages are most impacted.
- Watch user sessions: Click the play icon in the page row to watch a filtered list of session replays and observe exactly how users interact with the page when the text appears. This provides qualitative insights into whether the text causes confusion, frustration, or other behavioral changes.
Evaluate impact on revenue and conversion
Use Evaluation inside of Impact to quantify the business impact of the text string.
- Compare conversion rates: See how conversion rates differ between users who saw the text versus those who didn't. A significant drop may indicate that the text (such as an error message) is blocking users from completing their journey.
- Assess revenue impact: Understand whether the text string correlates with higher or lower revenue per session, helping you prioritize fixes based on financial impact.
Understand device and browser distribution with traffic distribution
Traffic distribution, available in the trends in user behavior section of Impact, shows you which devices, browsers, and operating systems are most affected by the text string.
- Identify platform-specific issues: Determine if the text appears more frequently on certain devices (mobile vs. desktop) or specific browsers. This can reveal technical issues that only affect particular user segments.
- Segment your analysis: Use these insights to create more targeted segments and understand if certain user groups are disproportionately impacted.
Track trends over time with sessions over time
Use sessions over time, available in the trends in user behavior section of Impact, to monitor how the frequency and impact of text strings change across your selected date range.
- Spot emerging issues: Identify sudden spikes in sessions where error messages appear, which may indicate new bugs or problems introduced by recent changes.
- Measure improvement: After implementing fixes, track whether the number of sessions seeing error messages decreases over time.
- Correlate with releases: Compare the timeline with your release schedule to determine if specific deployments introduced or resolved issues related to the text string.
