Once you've created a Zoning analysis, you can use shortcuts to dig deeper into the data, share your findings with teammates, and take action on what you discover. This article shows you how to export and share your Zonings, and how to use right-click shortcuts to explore user behavior further.
Export and share your Zonings
How to export a Zoning as PNG or PDF
- From your Zoning list, open the Zoning you want to export,
- Then click the menu at the top right corner of your Zoning menu,
- Hover over 'Download', then select PNG or PDF as your export format.
After a short time processing the export, the file will download. You can also download your Zoning by clicking on the download icon in the right panel.
Good to know
Downloading a Zoning as PNG or PDF is also available while you are in Compare Mode.
How to share a Zoning link
When to use this: You want to give a teammate direct access to your live Zoning analysis so they can explore the data themselves.
- From your Zoning list, open the Zoning you want to share,
- Click the 'Share icon'
Click on 'Copy Link'. The link will be automatically copied to your clipboard and ready to share.
Analysis Shortcuts
Shortcuts help you take action on what you discover in your Zoning. You can quickly create segments and goals, watch session replays, and jump to other features , all while keeping your current filters in place.
To access the shortcuts, simply right-click on the zone you want to open the shortcuts for.
Most shortcuts are available on all plans. Features with plan restrictions are marked below.
When you select most shortcuts, a slide-in panel opens where you can configure the feature's settings before saving.
Rename a zone
What it does
Change the default name of a zone to something more meaningful for your team.
When to use this
The automatic zone name (like "Zone 1" or "div.container") isn't descriptive enough, and you want to give it a name that makes sense for your analysis (like "Subscribe Button" or "Hero Banner").
How to use it
- Right click on a zone
- Click 'Rename a zone'
- Type in your new zone name
- Click 'Rename'
See all metrics for a zone
What it does
View a complete list of metrics (like clicks, hovers, exposure rate, and more) for the zone you selected.
When to use this
You want to see all available performance data for a specific zone in one place, rather than toggling between different views.
How to use it
- Right click on the zone you want to analyze.
- Click 'See all metrics for a zone'.
Note: Depending on your Contentsquare plan, some metrics shown may vary.
Create a segment
What it does
Save the users who interacted with this zone as a reusable segment, so you can analyze their behavior across other features in Contentsquare.
When to use this
You've discovered interesting behavior on a zone (for example, users who clicked a promotional banner) and want to see how these users behave elsewhere on your site — such as their conversion rates, session duration, or which pages they visit.
How to use it
- Right click on a zone
- Select 'Create segment'
- Configure your segment settings
- Click 'Save'
Once saved, you can apply this segment in Impact Quantification (a feature that measures the business impact of user behaviors), funnels, and other analysis features.
Create a goal
What it does
Track this zone interaction as a conversion goal to measure how many users complete this action.
When to use it
You want to measure an important action (like clicking "Add to Cart", "Subscribe", or "Download") as a success metric and understand what drives users to complete it.
How to use it
- Right click on a zone
- Click 'Create a goal'
- Configure your goal settings in the panel
- Click 'Save'
Create an alert
What it does
Set up an automatic alert that notifies you when performance on this zone changes significantly (based on a metric you choose).
When to use it
You want to be notified immediately if something important happens with this zone — such as a sudden drop in clicks or increase in exposure rate.
How to use it
- Right click on a zone
- Click 'Create an alert'
- Configure your alert settings in the panel that opens (choose a metric, threshold, and who should be notified)
- Click 'Save'
You'll receive notifications based on your alert settings when the threshold is met.
Track in Dashboard
What it does
Add a widget to an existing Dashboard (or create a new one) to monitor this zone's performance over time.
When to use it
You want to keep an eye on how this zone performs on an ongoing basis, alongside other key metrics in your Dashboard.
How to use it
- Right click on a zone
- Click 'Track dashboard'
Choose the dashboard to add the widget to
- Configure the widget settings in the panel that opens
- Click 'Add widget'
Watch how uses interact with a zone
Watch session replays of users who clicked or hovered on a specific zone to see their behavior in action. You want to understand WHY users are interacting (or not interacting) with a zone, see what they did before and after the interaction, or identify usability issues.
How to use it:
- Right-click on any zone in your Zoning analysis
Select either:
- See Clicks in Session Replay to watch replays of users who clicked the zone
- See Hovers in Session Replay to watch replays of users who hovered over the zone
The Session replay player will open and jump to the moment when the user interacted with the zone, so you can see exactly what happened.
What you will see
The replays shown match your current Analysis Context (your date range, filters, etc.). Contentsquare finds complete user sessions where the zone interaction happened at any point during their visit — even if they visited multiple pages during that session.
You'll be able to see replays even when your analysis includes conditions across multiple pages.
For example: Imagine you're analyzing users who clicked a zone on your Special Offers page AND later reached your Confirmation page. These two things happen on different pages during a user's visit. Session Replay will show you the user's complete journey, so you can see both actions in context; What led them to click the special offer, and whether they successfully reached the confirmation page.
