This article applies to customers on our Pro and Enterprise plans. The Page Masking tab is found in the Contentsquare Console and can only be managed by users with Admin access.
Page Masking in Contentsquare allows you to quickly and easily mask all visible text on your website, by replacing text with the letter “A”. This can be applied to your entire website, or to selected pages.
About the Page Masking tab
Page masking works by masking the text and characters on your web pages, including removing unnecessary HTML attributes that could contain personal data.
From the Page Masking tab you can:
- Mask all pages (this option is selected by default)
- Mask selected pages using Operators or RegEx rules (either as inclusion or exclusion rules)
Accessing the Page Masking tab
- Click your profile icon in the top-right corner.
- Click ‘Console’.
- Under the ‘Projects’ tab, click the ‘Page Masking’ tab.
Page masking modes
- All pages: The Contentsquare standard and default with all pages masked.
- Selected pages: Apply masking per page.
- Off: Turn off page masking.
How to mask/unmask all pages
Note: All Contentsquare projects have full "All pages" masking applied by default.
Masking all pages
- Under “Page masking mode” select “All pages”.
Replacing "Selected Pages" masking with "All Pages" masking
Note that if the Page Masking mode is set to “Selected Pages”, by enabling the “All Pages” mode, any “Selected Pages” RegEx configuration will be overridden (any other rules including Operators will simply be disabled).
Unmasking all pages
Important: with Page Masking mode turned “Off”, all personal data is visible. In this case, it is strongly advised to set up Element Masking to keep personal data safe.
- Under “Page masking mode” select the “Off” button, followed by “Apply”.
- Review the warning modal and select “I understand, turn OFF Page Masking” to continue.
