This article explains how to use Bot View in CS Live to check what AI tools can see on your website pages.
Before your start
Bot View is part of CS Live, Contentsquare's browser extension for live page analysis. If you have not installed CS Live yet, learn how to get started with CS Live before following the steps below.
What you are analyzing and why it's important
When AI tools like GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Anthropic-ai visit your website, they read your pages differently from a regular browser. Some AI bots do not execute JavaScript, which means they cannot access content that requires JavaScript to load, such as prices, product descriptions, or navigation links that appear automatically when a visitor opens the page.
Content that a bot cannot access is content it cannot use: it will not appear in answers the AI generates for users, and it will not contribute to how the AI understands or represents your brand. This directly affects your brand's visibility in AI-generated responses.
Bot View shows you your page the way AI tools see it, so you can spot what content they are missing and understand the gap between what your users see and what AI tools actually receive.
How to use Bot View in CS Live
-
Launch CS Live on the page of your site, you want to check.
-
In the CS Live ribbon, click the 'switch to' option.
-
Select 'Bot view'.
The page updates to show how AI tools see it, without any content that only appears after the page fully loads in a browser.
Review missing content
When Bot View is on, the page displays as AI bots see it. Any content that relies on JavaScript to load will not appear; this is what tells you that AI bots cannot access it, because most AI bots do not execute JavaScript when they visit a page.
Use this view to understand which content AI bots are missing, and whether that content matters for how your brand appears in AI-generated responses
Common types of missing content include:
- Prices and product details that load automatically after the page opens
- Product descriptions are populated dynamically
- Interactive calls to action (CTAs) that only appear after the page loads in a browser
- Navigation links that only appear after the page loads in a browser
Use this view to identify which content on the page is at risk of being absent from AI-generated responses, product recommendations, or search summaries that reference your site.
FAQs
Which AI tools does Bot View simulate?
Bot View reflects how most AI tools access your pages: by reading the basic version of your page without running the code that powers dynamic content. It does not simulate a specific named tool.
Why does Bot View show less content than my live site?
Your live site loads additional content automatically when a visitor opens the page in their browser. AI tools typically skip this step; they only read what is present in the page's basic structure. Any content that relies on that loading process will not appear in Bot View.
Is Bot View available on all my pages?
Bot View is available on pages where the Contentsquare tracking tag is installed and where your CS Live session is active. Availability on pages that require users to log in first is still being confirmed.
Do I need to set anything up to use Bot View?
No additional setup is required. You can access the Bot view from the CS Live ribbon.
