This article walks you through how to create a new dashboard in Contentsquare, whether you want to start from a pre-built template or build one from scratch with your own widgets and metrics.
Before you begin
- You can create up to 100 dashboards per account, so it's worth thinking about how you want to organize them before you start.
- If you're new to Dashboards, it helps to have a rough idea of which metrics you want to track. Not sure where to start? Check out Introduction to Dashboards for an overview of what's possible.
How to create a dashboard
-
From your dashboards list, click '+ New dashboard' in the top right corner.
-
Choose your starting point:
-
Use a template: start with a pre-built dashboard designed for a specific use case, with recommended widgets and metrics already in place.
Note
The templates available depend on your Contentsquare plan.
-
Create a custom dashboard: Start with a blank canvas and build your dashboard entirely from scratch.
If you choose a template, fill in the additional settings (e.g. URL for Page overview), and a dashboard will be generate with recommended metrics for you. You can customize this dashboard further following the steps below.
-
-
Click' + Add widget'.
You can choose from:
-
Pre-built widget templates: ready-made widgets for common metrics like average time on the page, exit rate, new vs. returning, and more.
-
Custom widgets: build your own widget by selecting the metric, visualization type (single value, line chart, table, or funnel), and any segments or filters you want to apply.
-
-
Use the Text widget to add written notes, headings, or links directly onto your dashboard. This is useful for explaining what a section shows, flagging something for your team's attention, or linking out to a related report or ticket.
-
Click on the dashboard title at the top of the page to rename it. Give it a clear, descriptive name so it's easy for you and your team to find later.
Additional configuration options
Organize with sections
If your dashboard has a lot of widgets, consider grouping them into sections using groups or the rich text widget. Keeping high-level KPIs at the top and more detailed breakdowns or funnels further down makes the dashboard easier to scan.
Tip
Consider using separate dashboards for different audiences or purposes. For example: One high-level executive view and one detailed analysis view.
Apply filters
Once your dashboard is set up, you can apply filters at the top of the page, including device type, date range, and audience segment, to focus the data across all widgets at once. You can also filter at the individual widget level for more granular control
