Error Analysis helps both technical and non-technical teams quickly identify high priority errors across your website and the pages they impact the most. In this article, learn how to start navigating the Error Analysis main page, refine your analysis scope and interpret each of the available widgets.
Getting started with Error Analysis
From the main menu, go to Error Analysis. There, you’ll land on the Error Analysis main page which is composed of individual widgets, each providing a different perspective into the errors impacting your site.
Focus your analysis
- Analysis context: Set your analysis context by selecting a specific device (desktop, tablet, mobile), date range, and user segment.
- Analysis scope: Use the ‘analysis scope’ dropdown to select whether you want the widgets to display error impact across your full website, or select a page group you want to focus on (for example you might want to focus on your checkout pages).
Explore the top error and page impact widgets
Each widget provides a different view into how errors are impacting your site, listing the “top” errors or pages. Interact with each widget to explore further:
- Customize your mapping or goal: On the relevant widgets, your reference mapping and ecommerce goal (if applicable) are selected by default. Use the dropdown to switch to a more appropriate mapping and goal.
- Open the error's details: Click onto any listed error (or page) for more details.
- Watch an error replay or summarize it with AI: Hover over any error to watch the related replays or summarize the error using AI.

Understanding the widgets
Widget: Sessions with errors
This widget helps you understand the impact of errors based on the number of affected sessions. It is composed of 3 parts:
- Use the error rate cards to monitor the percentage of sessions affected by errors, in total and by error type, and how it has evolved compared to the previous period. Click on an error type to filter the line chart and error list.
- With the line chart, detect any unusual spike in the number (or percentage) of sessions with error over the selected period.
- The error list displays the top 10 errors by sessions so you can focus on the ones causing the detected spike or responsible for a high error rate. Learn more about the sessions with errors metric.
Widget: Top pages by sessions with error
This interactive widget helps you quickly identify pages with high page error rates and high volumes of affected sessions. Hover over the dots for details and click to investigate which errors are affecting the page the most.
By default, the widget shows the data for the top 10 page groups of the default, or selected, mapping. You can choose another mapping or switch to the top 10 pages (by path).
Widget: Top 10 errors by missed opportunity
Available for e-commerce projects, this widget helps you understand the impact errors are having on your revenue, calculating the lost revenue as a result of the sessions that encountered the error on a particular page group versus those that didn’t. Learn more about the missed opportunity metric.
The widget only shows errors where the missed opportunity result is statistically significant.
Widget: Top 10 errors by impact on goal
This widget uses any goal you select (from the dropdown) to calculate the percentage (%) difference in conversion rate of sessions that encountered the error on a particular page group versus those that didn’t. Learn more about the impact on goal metric.
The widget only shows errors where the impact on goal result is statistically significant.
Widget: Top page groups by lost conversions
This widget uses any predefined conversion goal you select (from the dropdown) and then ranks the page groups most affected, by calculating the number of conversions lost due to the difference in conversion rate between sessions that encountered an error, versus those that didn’t. Learn more about the lost conversion metric.
The widget only shows page groups where the lost conversions result is statistically significant.
Widget: Search the Error Explorer
The Error Explorer helps you see beyond the top 10 errors, allowing you to perform a full, flexible search for specific errors, or pages that are being impacted. From the explorer, you can perform a full search across all errors, or focus on any specified page, or page group, to see which errors are affecting your key performance indicators (KPIs).
FAQs
Why do I see a difference in results shown on a widget versus in the error details?
This can happen due to sampling applied to widgets, which is in place to optimize widget performance and maintain order of magnitude. You should refer to the error details for the precise results.
Why don’t I see any errors on some widgets?
The ‘Top 10 errors by impact on goal’, ‘Top page groups by lost conversions’, and the ‘Top 10 errors by missed opportunity’ widgets only filter results that have statistical significance. If there are no statistically significant results, none will be displayed.
Will I see excluded errors in the widget results?
No, excluded errors are excluded from computing trends and error rates.
