How to enable tracking URL changes for Single Page Apps
Single Page Applications (SPAs) allow users to browse different pages on your site without having to reload the page completely. In most cases, a SPA website will change the URL in the browser, even though the page is not being reloaded.
By default, Contentsquare detects and tracks these SPA URL changes automatically. However, if a user visits a new page on your SPA site and the URL doesn't change, or fragments are added to the URL that need to be tracked by Contentsquare, you should update your Contentsquare settings to ensure correct user tracking.
To enable tracking URL changes:
- Go to 'Project and users'.
- Select 'Tracking'.
- Use the on/off toggle in the 'Tracking URL changes' section:
How to collect JavaScript errors
To enable/disable JS error collection:
- Click your profile icon from the top right, followed by 'Project and users'.
- Select the 'Tracking' menu.
- Next to 'Collect JS errors', use the on/off toggle button.
How to edit data masking settings
Data masking settings allow you to control which data is excluded from being sent or stored in session capture. Regardless of the setup, Contentsquare automatically masks keystroke data, emails, and credit card numbers.
Note
Only Account admins can access and update data masking settings.
To access the data masking settings:
-
Click on your profile icon.
-
Click 'Projects and users'.
-
Select 'Data masking' from the left hand menu.
The available masking options for all pages include:
- No masking: All content is visible.
- Full masking: Text, digits, images, audio, and video content are hidden.
- Mask only text: Text and digits are masked (Media is shown).
- Mask only digits: Only numbers are hidden.
Remember to click 'Save' when you make any changes to your data masking settings.
You also have an option to mask everything on specific pages. This will mask all text, digits, images, audio and video content on pages matching rules you specify.
To specify which pages to fully mask, add URL-based rules. You can add up to 20 rules per project. For each rule, define a URL condition using operators.
How to configure IP blocking
You can exclude certain users, such as people in your office, by IP address. Contentsquare uses the outbound public IP address to block devices, so it's important that the IP addresses are public and not internal or private. Examples of private IP addresses include: 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x, 192.168.x.x
The user who has their IP blocked won't be captured as a Session Replay. Their visit will also not contribute data to any Heatmaps. However, Surveys will still be shown to these visitors.
To block a user's IP:
- Go to 'Projects and users'.
- Choose 'IP blocking'.
- Add the IP address to the list
- Click 'Save'.
